Is Guerrero a stage name?
The witness protection program...
Dear Lisa G,
I’ve seen you referred to as Lisa Guerrero and Lisa Guerrero-Coles. Is Guerrero a stage name or married name and what’s up with Coles?
Tamara
Seattle, WA
Guess that witness protection program thing didn’t work. . .and to make matters even more confusing, I’m now technically Lisa Erickson!
My father’s last name is Coles (he’s American) and my mother’s last name was Guerrero (she was Chilean and passed away from cancer when I was eight years old.) I was told when I began my career that I couldn’t be both a sportscaster and an actress but I begged to differ, so I made up one headshot and resume as Lisa Coles to audition for acting jobs and another headshot and resume as Lisa Guerrero to interview for reporting gigs. As luck would have it, I started working in both fields immediately and at one time worked 51 weeks straight without a day off! Monday through Friday I starred as Francesca Vargas on Aaron Spelling’s “Sunset Beach” on NBC and on the weekends, holidays and Thursday nights I was a sport reporter on CBS-2 in Los Angeles.
Finally, I settled on Lisa Guerrero to honor my mother’s memory and because I wanted my name to be a reflection of my Hispanic heritage.
In 2004, I married Major League Baseball pitcher Scott Erickson, so I’m proud to be called Mrs. Erickson, but I’ll always remain Lisa Guerrero. . .or you can just call me Lisa G.Best Damn Sports Show Period
Never say never
Dear Lisa G,
How long were you on the Best Damn Sports Show Period? It's not the same without you! Would you ever go back?
Darren
Long Beach, CA
Never say never! Thanks Darren. I spent 20 months on the show, and was one of the original cast members. I debuted with Tom Arnold, Chris Rose, Deacon Jones, Reggie Theus and John Kruck. Eventually Deacon and Reggie were replaced by Michael Irvin and John Salley. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on T.B.D.S.S.P., especially at the top of each show when the let me argue the sports controversy of the day with the guys before sending me off to the news desk to give the live sports highlights through out the night.
Monday Night Football
Brett Favre interview...
Dear Lisa G,
I miss you on Monday Night Football! What was the highlight of your season on the show? (I loved when you gave Priest Holmes a hard time when he wouldn’t sign his contract.) L.O.L.!
Jordan
Pittsburgh, PA
Thanks Jordan! Probably the most memorable game for me as a sideline reporter in 2003 was watching the stunning performance by Brett Faure vs. The raiders following the sudden death of his father the day before the game. He hadn’t missed a start in eleven years straight and had fought back from several injuries that season including a fractured thumb. No one knew for sure if he would play the game, but incredibly, he did and had one of most spectacular performances of his career. Although the Packers P.R. director told me during the game that Brett would not do any post game interviews, at the last minute he changed his mind and granted me the only interview he would do that night! To this day, his courage and grace under very difficult circumstances make him one of my favorite football heroes.
A Plumm Summer
Your first lead in a film?
Hi Lisa G,
What's this about a movie? I read in "Variety" that you'll be in something called "A Plumm Summer." Is it your first lead in a film?
Dave
Denver, Colorado
It's true! "A Plumm Summer" is a family film set to hit theaters later this Spring. It's based on a true story set in 1968 in Montana. It stars Billy Baldwin, Henry Winkler and is narrated by Jeff Daniels. For more info click here.
